Trusted Eye Care in Satara Since 1945 — A Legacy of Three Generations
Bokil Eye Hospital, Satara was founded in 1945 by Late Dr. Madhavrao Bokil, Satara\"s first ophthalmologist.
After completing his D.O.M.S. degree from J.J. Hospital, Mumbai, he returned to Satara and started the first eye hospital
at Kasar Deool wada, Saturday Peth. He introduced cataract, squint correction, muscle surgeries, and later successfully learned
and performed glaucoma surgery at Shirin Hospital, Miraj, during a time when glaucoma was considered untreatable.
He served patients until 1972 and conducted multiple surgeries and camps across Satara district.
His son, Dr. Sudhir Bokil, further expanded the hospital\"s capabilities after receiving advanced eye surgery
training in Mumbai at Kehram Nair and Haji Bachoo Ali Hospitals. Under the guidance of 16 top ophthalmic surgeons, he mastered
cataract, glaucoma, retina (detachment), squint correction, and complex eye surgeries.
He served in Civil Hospital and Aryangal Hospital for several years, conducted more than 250 eye camps, and performed over
1 lakh surgeries, including free services for the underprivileged. Between 1982 and 1991, he was honored with 9 Government
Silver Medals and Lifetime Achievement Awards for his service to eye health in Satara district.
In 2005, the third generation, led by Dr. Siddharth Bokil, joined the hospital with a modern vision.
He completed his M.S. Ophthalmology, followed by specialized training in Phacoemulsification, Medical Retina, and Laser surgeries
from Coimbatore and the prestigious Aravind Eye Hospital.
Today, he leads the surgical excellence division, performing advanced cataract, retina, and laser procedures using premium technology
from Zeiss, Alcon, and Topcon.
Wife of Dr. Siddharth, Dr. Radhika Bokil joined the hospital in 2008 after achieving Top Rank in D.O.M.S. with all three Gold Medals.
She completed her Fellowship in Glaucoma from Coimbatore and is highly skilled in Glaucoma diagnosis, laser therapy, and surgical treatments.
Daughter of Dr. Sudhir Bokil, Dr. Rupali Sardesai is also an ophthalmologist, trained at Aravind Eye Hospital, specializing in
Femto Laser Cataract Surgery and vision correction procedures. She currently practices in Pune Camp region, running her own EyeCare Eye Clinic.
